On May 30, 2007, Sharon Eckert received the 2007 Notice of Appraised Value on her property in Wimberley. She asked me to review it for her to determine why her homestead exemption was not transferred from her prior residence, also in Wimberley. I thus began a lengthy, frustrating and fruitless communication with Hays County Appraisal District to correct this condition.
In February 2008, I met Luanne Caraway at the HCTC office and casually mentioned I was having problems with HCAD, at which time she volunteered to help. Luanne had several contacts with HCAD's officials supporting the property owner's appeal and convincing them of her right to the homeowner's exemption. As a result of Luanne's involvement, the property owner received a refund check in excess of $500 for overpayment of taxes for 2007.
I am certain that this matter would have taken much longer to resolve if Luanne had not become involved. It is her willingness to become personally involved in a property owner's problem that justifies the support of every property owner in Hays County in the upcoming election and whenever she chooses to run for re-election in the years ahead.

If Luanne Caraway had not become involved on my behalf, I doubt that this issue would have been resolved without many more trips and much more communication with the Appraisal District. I am convinced that Luanne Caraway is the best qualified candidate for the position of Hays County Tax Collector in view of her willingness to become personally involved in a property owner's problem and to contend for the exemptions to which property owners are legally entitled.
